The Taking of Pelham 244

In My day to day on February 17, 2010 at 8:26 pm

We’re on the move again, another rental, another spot in beautiful Lunenburg…

This time we’ve ended up in a gorgeous townhouse, on Pelham Street (walking distance to the pub again!!). The house was recently renovated from the ground up, including propping up steep original foundations on the side of Shipyard Hill – see above map.

There are several pros and cons to being back in town. As mentioned we’re once again within walking distance to all amenities and work (for me). However, although we still have an ocean view it’s not quite so spectacular as the one at Blue Rocks.

Upper level deck

Another disadvantage would be our lack of garden, however, we’re only here until July and therefore it shouldn’t be too much on an issue. Oreo isn’t much into the great outdoors and prefers the heated floors anyway!

Fall Colours

In Sites and Sounds on October 25, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Cameron and I have been awake since 5am this morning, well in fact that’s maybe a slight lie… Since I was awake at 5am and couldn’t get back to sleep I decided to give Cameron a wee poke so I’d have someone to talk to. The reason I was awake at that time? Howling winds and driving rain – to the point where the rain was coming in under the patio door and the windows were leaking. We had to run round laying down towels and strategically placing pots/pans etc. Once this mission was completed we climbed back under the covers, after a cup of tea, and some more chit chat we both finally drifted off again for a little while. Amazingly we woke to blue skies and gorgeous sunshine. We decided to make the best of the weather and headed off out for a walk around the old railway line in Lunenburg. The colours were amazing, truly beautiful. I think these pictures say it all…

The View from our Window

In Sites and Sounds on October 16, 2009 at 9:25 am

Today I woke up, looked out the window and this is that I saw…

The Balmoral

The Balmoral

A pair of binoculars, a little internet research and we soon found out that the ship was in fact called The Balmoral. It had anchored in the channel outside our house as it was simply too large to make it into the harbour at Lunenburg. Smaller boats taxied passengers and crew into the town.

The Balmoral can carry 1350 passengers, 510 crew and weighs an impressive 43,537 grt (gross register tonnage). For more information visit the Fred Olsen cruise lines website

Anniversary Weekend

In My day to day on September 8, 2009 at 9:30 am

The weekend just past (5th September) was our very first wedding anniversary. Our parents and granny, were very kind and gave us some money towards a weekend away (thank you!).

We left Lunenburg bright and early and headed first to the mall at Halifax. New outfit was purchased and we snacked on pretzels (hot, buttery and salty – delicious)! We passed the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and couldn’t resist purchasing a few chocolates…

We checked in to the hotel…

Cameron had bought me some champagne as an anniversary present so we decided to pop it on ice and let it chill whilst we went for a swim…

Woke up this morning….

In My day to day on November 22, 2008 at 3:30 pm

After a busy week of working and studying we decided to treat ourselves to a night out (well a few drinks at the curling fun night then on to the local). As we staggered home it was just starting to snow – nothing much just a few small flakes. Woke up this morning and this is what we saw…
